AI for Comm Hub Spotlight

AI for Comm Hub and Niloufar Bayati Advance AI Literacy at the SITE Conference

AI for Communication Hub continues to expand its impact in AI education, highlighted by its recent presentation at the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) Conference. Niloufar Bayati, a PhD candidate at North Carolina State University and one of the Hub’s workshop key facilitators, presented “From Theory to Practice: A Framework for Designing AI Literacy Workshops.” The work was developed in collaboration with Dr. Alice Y. Cheng https://chass.ncsu.edu/people/alicecheng/ who leads the AI for Comm Hub.

This presentation builds directly on the success of two AI literacy workshops which together reached over 100 registrants, with more than 60 students participating in person. Designed and led by Niloufar Bayati and Dr. Cheng, alongside the Hub team, these workshops focused on hands-on learning, especially prompt engineering and applied AI use, helping students move beyond basic knowledge to practical, real-world application.

The resulting framework demonstrates how structured, experiential learning can significantly enhance students’ confidence and ability to effectively use generative AI tools. By translating workshop outcomes into a scalable model and sharing it at an international conference, the team extended its impact beyond campus to a global community of educators and researchers.

The SITE Conference also provided opportunities to connect with scholars worldwide, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in shaping the future of AI in education.

Under Dr. Cheng’s leadership, the AI for Communication Hub continues to advance innovative, accessible approaches to AI literacy. In just a short period, the Hub has not only trained a large and diverse group of students but also contributed a research-informed framework that positions it as a leading voice in AI education and literacy across disciplines.
