AI4COMMHUB

The artificial intelligence (AI) for Communication Hub is a multi-phase educational initiative designed to equip STEM students with ethical, professional, and applied AI communication skills. Specifically, the project is designed to equip students in Biological and Agricultural Engineering Technology (BAET), Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE), and other STEM disciplines with essential AI literacy, ethical communication competencies, and hands-on experience using emerging AI tools such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, and domain-specific AI applications in agriculture and engineering. The program emphasizes responsible AI use, communication excellence, and research -ready assessment through pre/post surveys and artifact analysis.
Our #1 Mission
Artificial Intelligence for Communication Hub is a platform that supports students in developing AI skills for communication, media, and education.
We offer resources, workshops, and learning opportunities to encourage responsible and effective use of AI technologies.Dr. Cheng, Associate Professor, CHASS (PI);
Dr. Lingjuan, Distinguished Professor, BAE (CO-PI)
Innovative AI for Communication Workshop II
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) invites you to join our AI Workshop series, designed for students from all majors and backgrounds who want to better understand Generative AI and how it’s used in communication, strategy, and real-world contexts. Join the AI4CommsHub for its maiden Innovative AI Communication Workshops to gain hands-on experience in ethical AI, strategic communication, and real-world applications. These immersive workshop(s) also equips students with practical skills to communicate, evaluate, and create responsibly with AI. The workshop will culminate in a challenge and a final showcase. Students who complete both workshops will:
- Participate in the AI Creator Challenge,
- Present a poster at the final showcase, and
- Complete the required surveys and receive an official Certificate of Completion
Workshop 2
This workshop is best suited for students ready to apply AI to communication practice, industry contexts, and engineering domains. Participants will work with advanced tools, analyze case studies, and develop communication products that demonstrate clarity, accuracy, and ethical decision‑making. Both sessions emphasize hands‑on learning, guided practice, and real-world relevance.
Friday, March 27
11:00 AM – 4:30 PM
D.S. Weaver Labs 158
NB: Participants may attend only one session.
Why Join the Workshop?
- Build practical AI and communication skills
- Participate in the AI Creator Challenge and Poster Presentations.
- Compete for prizes and valuable packages of online training boot camp courses for winners
- Earn recognition as an Ethical AI Communicator
- Receive an official Certificate of Completion (upon completing the AI Challenge, poster, and surveys)
- Create portfolio-ready projects.
- Network with peers, faculty, and industry-connected mentors.
Who Can Attend
The project is designed to equip students in Biological and Agricultural Engineering Technology (BAET), Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE), and other STEM disciplines with essential AI literacy, ethical communication competencies, and hands-on experience using emerging AI tools such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, and domain-specific AI applications in agriculture and engineering. The program emphasizes responsible AI use, communication excellence, and research-ready assessment through pre-/post-survey and artifact analysis. However, this workshop is open to undergraduate and graduate students in STEM, communication, design, and related fields. Students interested in AI literacy, ethical technology use, science communication, or interdisciplinary collaboration will benefit from the program. No prior technical experience with AI tools is required.
Student Research Opportunities
Participants are invited to join the AI Creator Challenge, a structured research and design experience where teams develop an AI‑enabled communication product connected to a STEM topic. Projects may include visual communication materials, strategic communication plans, or other applied artifacts that demonstrate responsible AI use. The program culminates in a Final Student Poster Showcase, where participants present their work to peers, faculty, and invited guests. Outstanding projects may be recognized with awards and opportunities for further development. All participants who complete the challenge and poster presentation will produce portfolio‑ready work that reflects ethical, applied AI communication practices.

AI Creator Challenge
Students participating will apply AI tools to develop ethical, innovative communication campaigns connected to real-world engineering and agricultural projects, such as:
- Senior design or undergraduate engineering projects
- Team-based initiatives like quarter-scale tractor competitions, international student design competitions, and fundraising or outreach campaigns
- Projects emphasizing engineering design, budgeting, public communication, and stakeholder engagement
In other words, Student teams will design an ethical, AI-enabled strategic communication product focused on a STEM topic. Each team is required to produce three deliverables:
(1) an AI-enabled communication artifact such as a poster, infographic, video, or campaign plan;
(2) a written ethical AI reflection of 500–800 words; and
(3) a symposium poster or presentation.
Final Showcase
The program will conclude with a symposium showcasing student projects, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among students, faculty, and stakeholders while highlighting best practices in AI-enabled strategic communication.
